Clifton Charie is a lifelong learner who loves solving problems of every kind. Shortly after graduating from the physiotherapy program at McGill University in 1984, he began taking courses to become a registered acupuncturist. In 1990 Clifton established Orleans Physiotherapy, the first private practice serving families in Orleans. After completing the requirements to be a certified acupuncturist with the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada, he began exploring German Auricular Therapy courses (ear acupuncture.) He finds auricular therapy particularly helpful in treating people with chronic pain where traditional physiotherapy methods have not been successful. For clients adverse to needles, Clifton has mastered auricular therapy using the RJ Laser. He continues to hone his acupuncture skills by taking courses for neurological issues. Clifton was one of the first therapists to purchase a Shockwave machine, which has proven a useful tool for treating joint and tendon problems.

When Clifton isn’t helping clients at the clinic, he can be found volunteering at the Ottawa Tool Library. He has also helped build homes in Orleans with Habitat for Humanity. He often volunteers his physiotherapy services at ultimate tournaments, a sport his two adult sons play passionately. In the summer Clifton enjoys gardening, cycling, canoeing, hiking, and camping. In the winter he enjoys cross country skiing, playing badminton, reading and puttering in his workshop.

When I was 14 years old, I had a serious knee injury during a basketball try-out. I was sidelined from my favourite sport for months. As a teenager, that was the worst day of my life! To return to basketball, I needed professional help which is when physiotherapy came into my life for the 1st time. I needed grueling weekly sessions for 3 months. I discovered a whole new world! I admired the work they did to bring me back to sport form and finally be able to play basketball again at a competitive level! Needless to say, I fell in love with physiotherapy! After that personal experience, it became my dream to one day be that physiotherapist that can make a difference in someone else life.

In June 2009, that dream became reality!! I graduated with honors with a bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Ottawa. Since then, I have worked at Orleans Centre for Physiotherapy. I’ve had the privilege of living my childhood aspiration! I have continued to improve and heighten my skills with numerous post graduate courses:

  • Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute (AFCI) : Level AA1 Level AA2
  • Advance Myofascial Release of Cervical-Thoracic techniques of John F. Barnes
  • Myofascial Mobilization techniques of John F. Barnes
  • Mulligan Concept Upper Quadrant
  • APTEI : Therapeutic Taping
  • Robin Mckenzie Institute Canada : PART A: Lumbar Spine PART B: Cervical Thoracic Spine
  • Graston Technique; instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization : M1 level training
  • APTEI: Advanced Physical Therapy Persistent Pain Certification Program

I value the importance of friendly, honest, caring and skillful treatments where the client’s comfort and needs are at the forefront of my physiotherapy treatments. Being fluently bilingual allows me to practice in Orleans with ease and provide services in the client’s preferred language.

Now more than 12 years later, I have 2 daughters who I want to inspire and show them a great example of what following your dreams is all about! I am truly fortunate to be a member of this wonderful team at Orleans Physio.
